William Beauchamp and Jamie Cussen combine to create the creative partnership known as Aircastle.
The pair began their collaboration in York University’s Film Production program where they teamed up on a number of short films in both the documentary and narrative genres. Their documentaries “Marianne” and “Murphy’s Law” were both Official Selections at Hot Docs, where “Murphy’s Law” received a nomination for Best Short Documentary. Their narrative short “Rock Paper Scissors” premiered at the Atlantic Film Festival and traveled the globe to screen in Austin, Halifax, Beijing, Bucharest and Toronto. Its accolades include Best Short Film at the Canadian Film Festival, Best Film at the NSI Online Short Film Festival and was nominated for TIFF Top 10.
Since its inception Aircastle has produced two feature length documentaries for broadcast and a number of short films funded by Bravo!FACT and the NFB. These projects include “Black Ice”, “The Air Balloon Circus” and “The Balcony Affair” which completed its festival run in 2012 after screenings in Locarno, Vancouver, Rhode Island IFF and Newport Beach.
In the commercial world Aircastle has garnered viral success and created numerous award winning spots. “Catvertising” became an online phenomena receiving a shout out from Conan O’Brien, and a mention on the Time Top Ten of Everything 2011. Since then the team has worked with brands like Coors Light, Harveys, and Neutrogena to create award winning work – most recently taking home a bronze lion for their commercial efforts at Cannes.
